Venus Lee – Happy Hippies [Review]

Venus Lee has has released her first single ‘Happy Hippies.’ The mother of four, yoga teacher, environmental conservationist is taking her turn at music—and it’ll put a smile on your face.

With influences including Janis Joplin, Heart, The Cranberries and Alanis Morisette, Venus Lee creates a bouncy, rhythmic ballad in ‘Happy Hippies.’ The sound seems as if to converge from a variety of backgrounds—Jamaican reggae here, country twang there—yet it all works. Happily. Peacefully.

‘Happy Hippies’ is the type of song you play when you are having a good day, or when you want to have a good day. Venus Lee is entrancing and personable through her lyrics, and vocals paired with an easy, carefree instrumental backdrop provide the track with its outright organic appeal.

It’s not surprising that, of the many hats Lee wears, one of them is that of a mother. Her voice is like a lullaby, and there’s no better message to find in such a feel-good song: everything will be okay.

With a standout debut single, Venus Lee’s warmth and skill will undoubtedly attract listeners across the country.
