Trends – Ampersand [Review]

Here’s a track we think’s worth your time. This is ‘Ampersand’, the first single from LA alt-rock band Trends.

Ampersand is a strong debut, gliding from sweet melancholy beginnings into a fiery crescendo. As the song swings forward, this deliberate shift in tone draws a distinct line in its progression. Just when you think you’ve reached a predictable conclusion, the distortion kicks in, changing direction in an instant and keeping you firmly on the hook.

This sound sits somewhere between reverb-infused alt-indie and garage punk. Frontwoman Marina Paiz’s vocals have a certain familiarity to them, emanating plenty of late 90s nostalgia.

“Ampersand” is the first of two singles to be released in anticipation of the nine song full length, “Palettes,” expected later this year. Trends also are currently playing shows in Los Angeles and preparing for a late 2019 West Coast tour, so make sure to catch them live if you get the chance.
