Ron A.P. – City of Love [Review]

‘City of Love’ is the latest single from South Jersey hip-hop artist Ron A.P. taken from his new album of the same name.

There’s something great hearing a “pure” hip-hop track – and that’s exactly how I’d describe ‘City of Love’. It’s a no frills approach to rap, relying on slick lyrics and tight delivery over any over the top production techniques.

That’s not to say the beat doesn’t work perfectly as a backdrop. It’s minimal to the point where Ron A.P.’s bars can take full focus and works to set the tone well for a track that clearly takes inspiration from the old school heavyweights like Nas and Jay-Z.

And like many old school hip hop bangers, City of Love is dedicated to – you guessed it – the love of a city. In this case that city is Philadelphia, as Ron A.P.’s lyrics address his love for Philly’s gritty but relentlessly real reputation, lifestyle and scene.
