Here’s the first listen to ‘Comeback Kid’ the debut track from Bushes, a promising new a 3-piece guitar band from Wirral in the UK.
The song is a wry take on the state of the modern music industry, and the minefield of getting your band ‘noticed’, which becomes apparent in the knowing lyrics – a clear nod to the struggle all up-and-comers face, which many emerging artists will surely relate to.
Bushes explain the idea behind ‘Comeback Kid’ as “a look back at some of the previous projects we’ve all been involved in that were maybe a bit more forced, and some of the characters we’ve come across in the music industry.”
We detect influences of bands like The Cribs, Jimmy Eat World and Weezer in Bushes guitar-driven sound. They’ve managed to forge awesome alt-rock melodies, complemented by thumping basslines and a distinct vocal line, to create something new, exciting and attention-grabbing.
The band has been writing together since 2016, describing themselves as three best mates bringing it back to basics. Despite the cynicism that comes through in the lyrics of ‘Comeback Kid’, if they keep producing awesome tracks like this one, it won’t be long before the wider music world starts to take notice.
The track is available as a free download on the band’s website here from today.
