Payson Lewis – When Love Was Young [Review]

Los Angeles/New York based singer-songwriter Payson Lewis, makes a debut with his effervescent and uplifting indie-pop hit, ‘When Love Was Young.’

As well as his previous acting roles, such as on the US show ‘How I Met Your Mother’, Payson Lewis is probably best known for his amazing cover versions, often collaborating with other artists. He performed a fantastic cover of Green Day’s ‘Basket Case’, with Lindsay Pearce, and he also came up with an incredible version of Adele’s ‘Hello’, along with fellow artists Brian Justin Crum, Kelley Jakle and Joanna Jones. This time Payson delivers an energetic and completely original track co-written with Selda Sahin, and produced by Ben Soldate. ‘When Love Was Young’ is a catchy upbeat indie-pop anthem, incorporating the nostalgia of past adventures in love, and carefree optimism. It conjures up pictures of cruising along a country road, or having fun with a special person on the beach, where the main factor you’ll be wearing is the feel-good one!

A stomping, energetic piano take us through, along with snappy drums and classic wah- wah guitar licks. Payson’s zesty vocals really lift the song, while a cool guitar riff and backing vocals add to the enjoyment. Enjoyment is definitely the key word here too. You’ll be singing along in the car, although I do recommend you open up the roof (if you’re lucky enough to have a convertible!)

Having wanted to release his own music for some months now, this exciting singer/songwriter is relishing the experience of now sharing his music with audiences, and recently performed this debut track at The Peppermint Club in West Hollywood. Club goers told us, “There was a real buzz around his performance.” It’s really pleasing to hear that there is plenty more to come. Payson tells us that he’s still writing and recording as we speak, and we’ll be soon be hearing the remaining tracks on the upcoming EP.

‘When Love Was Young’ can be streamed on Spotify right now, and for more info, follow Payson Lewis on Facebook, Twitter, YouTube and Instagram!
