Once & Future Band – Destroy Me [Review]

Take a spirited journey through the annals of psychedelic rock with this gargantuan track, ‘Destroy Me’ from California based outfit, ‘Once & Future Band’.

Its the grandiose poise, the bountiful subtleties and compelling nature that really catches the eye. You are instantly thrust into a journey crammed full of wondrous vocals, soothing rhythmic vibes and sparkling nuances, creating a mysteriously comforting atmosphere throughout. There is a sweet nostalgia that oozes out, harking back to the old style 70’s rock pioneers like Floyd and ELO, whilst also tapping into current tastes, riding the same wave of bands like King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard. Not surprising given the apt name.

The steady build up of this song is enough to keep your mind flowing and not overbearing, which is sometimes the problem with longer, more journeyed tracks. The guitar and synths keep the groove ticking over, with fleeting glimpses of musical wizardry peaking your interest, keeping you entertained from start to finish. Like all good psychedelic roves, the lyrics paint an epic story, born out of sharp imagery, grabbing your attention without realising it.

The EP ‘Brain’ has already landed on March 9th, so you can see for yourself what else these guys have to offer. ‘Destroy Me’ is just a taster of what these talented guys are capable of and hopefully there is more of the same to look forward to.

Who said the 70’s was dead?
