Lonney Love – Waiting 4 U [Review]

There are few artists in the musical world that have the ability to make jaws drop within the first 30 seconds of a track—and with his first-ever solo EP, Lonney Love has managed it in just 10.

‘Waiting 4 U’ is both expansive and intimate at once; it is a concept universally understood and personally experienced. Electronic beats modernize the soulful vocals and classic piano that are often trademarks of a romantic pop song. Though this track deserves an entire movie to be created just so it can be on the soundtrack, I can’t help but think how ‘Waiting 4 U’ would have been a perfect addition to the Fifty Shades Darker soundtrack, which boasted artists like The-Dream, The Weeknd, Zayn, and JP Cooper.

There is a certain genuinity to the track that is perhaps due to Love’s emotionally rooted lyrics and pulse-like beat within building instrumentals. The song defies any notion that music is one medium in and of itself; Love not only tells a story, but replicates the highs and lows experienced at love’s (the feeling, not the person’s) expense.

Before releasing his first solo EP, Love shared the stage with artists to include Pitbull, Becky G, and Damien Marley; that development further nurtured the unique sound that delivers a vibrant, soulful pulse from this newest release.

A standout solo performance, ‘Waiting 4 U’ is a fantastically immersive gift to fans and music lovers alike—Love should be shared to everyone and anyone. And this time, I mean the feeling and the artist.
