Lavender – You Are In The Right Place [Review]

Check out Washington DC-based dream pop outfit Lavender’s new EP You Are In The Right Place.

The 5-track EP brings together everything we love about the recent dreamy alternative sounds coming out of the US.

Driving rhythms and joyful melodies act as the perfect backdrop to powerful vocal lines. Each track on the EP stays true to accessible indie sensibilities, but there’s a definitive sense that the band is trying – and succeeding – in creating some singular and intriguing.

The EP kicks off with Dangerous Game, a track laced with shuffling, restless beats and screeching guitars, before moving on to the altogether more sutble and ballad-like Berlin. It’s a superb introduction to demonstrate the range of dynamic sound they’re clearly capable of.

The pace picks up once again with the tracks Moving Fast and Short Time, each peppered with power chords and rising-falling vocals synonymous with the indie-alt genre the band is tackling. Track five Fade takes a more distorted turn, drenched with reverb and packed with dream-pop charm.

Fans of CHVRCHES, The Temper Trap and The 1975 will definitely dig this band. And You Are In The Right Place works as a great starting point for discovering them.

Standout vocals soaring above a superb guitar-driven instrumental, Lavender serve up the sort of sound we can’t get enough of.
