Dig Exotic – Horses [Review]

LA-based multi-instrumentalist Rebecca Rosoff, a.k.a. Dig Exotic, unleashes her fiery side on blistering new single “Horses”.

A rip-roaring track of explosive energy, “Horses” is a dramatic departure from the heavy, trancey electronica of last year’s Act One E.P., proving Rosoff to be a multi-faceted, chameleonic artist unfazed by the risks of reinvention. It’s a bold move, but with Rosoff channelling an exhilarating intensity into the track, it’s one that pays off to considerable effect.

With punchy vocals somewhere between the snarls of Patti Smith and the shrieks of Karen O, overlaid with gloriously dirty, BRMC-like garage riffs, this is a near perfect slice of chaotic Rock n Roll. It’s deceptive simplicity and straightforward structure is a testament to the idea that quality doesn’t need to come through over-complication or excessive production. It’s a tried and tested formula that, when done well, will surely never lose its appeal.

Having already displayed a stunning talent in utilising disparate musical styles, Dig Exotic promises to both intrigue and surprise us heading forward. And with more E.P. releases expected in the shape of Acts Two and Three, we can’t wait to hear what comes next.
