Coral Gables – Golden Estate [Review]

Coral Gables’ new single “Golden Estate” is a nostalgic creation that is immediately reminiscent of 80s synth pop, but also establishes a modern day Indie vibe.

The simplistic nature of the piano and synth loops builds throughout the song, successfully creating a serene ambience. However, the Indie studio production cleverly adds subtle layers to this piece which gradually expands the space that it inhabits, creating an intricate yet delicate atmosphere.

The monotonous tones of the vocals are similar to that of Radiohead, however the lyrical introspection matches the emotive melodies of the piano. This cleverly explores the deep and meaningful questions of life through the medium of music.

As the layers of this piece build up, Gables’ compositional techniques become less rigid and more experimental, especially in the percussion. Halfway through, the drum rolls and crashing cymbals creates a chaotic chorus which leads to a sudden moment of calm. Gables is able to show the listener through this relaxing resolution that there is always light at the end of the tunnel.

Golden Estate’s sound is comparable to the early music of Sleeping at Last with its clever structure and spacey atmosphere. He is planning to release a new EP in early 2020 and we can’t wait to hear it!
