AnastasiaMax – Get Away [Review]

Hailing from Boca Raton, Florida, AnastasiaMax are a young brother sister duo with a rock and roll sound which reaches far beyond their years…

The duo’s instantly distinctive sound is one of a raw and untinged talent with years of knowledge taken from inspirations such as Jack White, Billie Holiday, Royal Blood, and Nina Simone.

It’s something that you can clearly hear with guitarist Max Brenner providing heavily distorted licks which slur and drag along in a relaxed grunge-esque manner, perfectly assisted by sister Anastasia’s raunchy vocals which equally casually slur along whilst effortlessly boasting a powerful range, think a young Florence Welch which far more attitude.

New track ‘Get Away’ is one which plays around with a stop and start structure, winding itself with a casual urgency to raise the stakes but not until they feel they are ready. They bring you along just to show their fearlessness of bringing things to a complete stand still just to propel you forwards at breakneck speed, and it works to perfection.

With a trio of guitars bass and drums each somehow taking the spotlight sitting equally on the stratosphere of brilliance, perhaps topped slightly by Anastasia’s vocals. is all AnastasiaMax need to create a track which Royal Blood themselves would be proud of.

Not bad to say Max is 18 and his sister is just 11.

Get Away is the fourth and final track taken from AnastaisaMax’s upcoming debut EP The Haunt, due for release in May.
