A. Billi Free – Love, Music & Salad [Review]

Independent hip-hop artist A. Billi Free gets ultra-healthy on her new rap single Love, Music & Salad.

As a forerunner to her self-titled EP dropping in summer 2018, this release offers clever wordplay and an apparent passion for healthy eating that listeners can groove to. Comparisons could be drawn to the likes Lauryn Hill and Ladybug Mecca. It’s lo-fi hip-hop with a nutritious twist.

Coming in at just under 2 minutes 30 seconds, its short and sweet, but this doesn’t detract from the track at all. A. Billi Free manages to pack plenty into what is a smart, engaging song with a unique theme that couldn’t help but catch our attention.

The track instrumental was produced by New Mexico-based beat maker Latenightloki and recorded and engineered at Engle Studios in Tucson, Arizona; truly a southwest collaboration.

Emcee, vocalist and performance artist A. Billi Free spent her teenage years in the Midwest obsessed with all five elements of hip-hop. From writing angsty poetry in high school to singing soulful hooks on rap and electronica songs while being privy to some intense underground Chicago hip hop cyphers, it wasn’t until she moved to the southwest that she began developing and recording her own rhyme schemata over tracks.
